Beaverton to see new neighborhood housing
Apartments, townhouses, and houses are currently under construction in the South Cooper Mountain neighborhood of Beaverton.
Cheryl Twete, the community development officer for the city, said that the city had issued building permits for 104 single-family homes. The developer is focusing on building on the lots that have already had sitework done.
Ground has also been broken on the first apartment building in the new neighborhood. Twete said the developer is also seeking approval on an affordable housing project with 160 units. It was previously proposed that 175 units be built but architecture and site planning required some adjustments to the developer’s plan. This building will be on the west side of Mountainside High School. Another affordable housing project is also being planned for the neighborhood that will have 70 units. Flyer printing is often used to provide more details about such projects and their amenities.
In addition to the building construction, there will also be major roadwork on the surrounding roads. There is ongoing work on 175th Avenue in Beaverton that involves widening the road to accommodate bike lanes and upgrades to the sidewalks. Twete said the new development is generating more traffic that the previous narrow two-lane road could handle.
Twete added that the community is involved in the planning process of all the projects, which is not expected to be completed until 2022.
