Beaverton to cover childcare costs

A grant from the federal CARES Act will enable the Beaverton School District (BSD) to distribute funds cover childcare for families in the district.

Those families whose household income is under $6,250 per month will be eligible for a subsidy of up to $1,415 to cover costs for childcare. Those whose monthly income is over $9,375 will be able to receive up to $145 a month. These numbers are based on the assumed cost for childcare in Washington County for a child under the age of three. Those who live in the BSD can qualify for these subsidies even if their children do not attend schools in the district. Children need to be enrolled with a licensed childcare provider.

Those parents who are essential works, such as those in education, healthcare, critical manufacturing, and information technology may also qualify for the maximum benefit. Officials from the BSD have said that that there are different payouts for each school district in Washington County, so eligible parents/guardians are advised to check with their school for more details.

Print shops are often hired by school districts to provide more information about qualifications and amounts paid.

As these funds will be distributed until they run out, parents or guardians in the district are encouraged to apply for these funds as soon as possible.
