Beaverton selected among top places to raise families

Beaverton was recently ranked by Livability.com as third in a list of the best 10 places to live and raise a family in the United States.

Of particular note were employers such as IBM, Intel, and Nike, whose headquarters are in Beaverton, as well as scenic parks and outdoor natural areas, public transportation, and schools. Beaverton has 60 miles of trails, 90 parks, and 1,400 acres of dedicated natural areas. The report claimed that every home has a park of some kind within a half-mile distance.

Highlighted by Livability.com were Tom’s Pancake House as a kid-friendly restaurant, and Ponzi Vineyards Historic Estate for parents looking for a special date night.

Mayor Denny Doyle commented that it is rewarding to see Beaverton make the top of the list in national rankings over many years. He believes the city is highly active, responsive, and friendly, and has many great schools, services, parks, and other amenities. The mayor expressed his pride to the many partners and residents who make the city special.

Among the factors considered for the rankings were measures of children’s health, percent of population under six years of age, number of libraries and parks, and population between 20,000 and 300,000.
