Beaverton receives funds for city cleanup projects

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded the city of Beaverton a grand worth $300,000 that will enable it to assess, plan for, and safely clean up and sustainably reuse contaminated properties.

This grant will allow the city to add onto the success it has had with other grants it has received for the same purpose.

Denny Doyle, mayor of Beaverton, said that this grant provides many opportunities for the city. United States Senator Ron Wyden added that such a grant will enable development in downtown Beaverton, which will create multiple new jobs and economic opportunities for the city and Washington County. Senator Wyden, along with Senator Jeff Merkley and Congresswoman Bonamici, worked together to secure this grant from the EPA.

Banner printing can be used throughout the city so that the community becomes aware of such projects and their ramifications for a city.

Andrew Wheeler, EPA Administrator, added that these grants help communities to transform their sites into assets that improve public health and the environment, but they also create jobs and stimulate economic development. They are usually awarded to cities that may not have previously received such a grant.

There have been 151 grants awarded to 149 communities, totaling over $64m that have been given out as part of the Multipurpose, Assessment, and Cleanup Grant Programs of the EPA.
