Beaverton police move into new building

The finishing touches are currently being made to the new Public Safety Center in Beaverton.

Located near Allen and Southwest Hall Boulevards, the new center is on a parcel of land once home to the Beaverton Activities Center. A bond for $35m was approved by voters in 2016 for construction of the center.

The new building has a more inclusive name, as it will also be the home not just for the police department but also emergency management and the operation’s center for the city. It is also designed to withstand any severe earthquakes that may result from a fault off the coast of Oregon. The new center has easy access to Highway 217 to facilitate handling calls around many parts of the city. Brochure printing is often used to highlight other benefits of such new facilities.

Other features of the center include three sally ports, which enable criminal suspects to be put in holding cells rather than in the parking lot. There are also small rooms for officers to interview suspects rather than in the lobby, an area for officers to write reports, and separate offices for supervisors. There is a room on the ground floor for storing evidence, which used to be kept at an offsite location. A large plaza in front of the center will be hosting public art.
