Beaverton offers grants for building outdoor service areas
The new Open Air grant program has been launched in Beaverton, which will enable business owners to construct service areas outdoors both on street parking and in parking lots.
Assistance will be provided for the design and construction of outdoor structures such as decking and outdoor seating in accordance with the Open Air Beaverton program, which the city had previously introduced. The permitting program was adopted late last year and allowed businesses to permanently expand their services outdoors into right-of-way parking. Catalog and brochure printing services are often used by cities to offer more details about such programs.
There are two different types of grants offered by the program. One is for designing, and provides a designer contracted by the city to produce the drawings for the construction of a compliant outdoor service area – one that is ready for the permitting process. The other is a construction grant, for which the city will match up to 70% of cost up to $15,000 to cover part of the costs associated with building the outdoor areas. Outdoor structures can cost between $15,000 and $75,000, depending on the materials used.
Business owners who are interested in such funding need to first apply for an Open Air permit, create and get a finalized design, and then get quotes from a licensed contractor.
