Beaverton home to new pickleball court

What was once the Indoor Goals soccer facility in Beaverton has now become Jumbo’s Pickleball, and is open to the public.

Jumbo’s Pickleball has nine courts, and can be found on N.W Bethany Court. It spans 27,000 square feet, and has been extensively renovated to meet and exceed the standards of the Association of Pickleball Players.

Co-founder and co-owner of Jumbo’s Pickleball, Bryan Wieden, said that they went to Chicago where championship games were being played on the nine courts by professionals. He said that once the games were concluded, they were shipped to Beaverton, and Wieden had them painted the colors of the company. He added that the floors are three millimeters thick, and provide a good bounce for playing pickleball.

Such unique aspects are often promoted throughout a community with flyer printing.

Jumbo’s Pickleball also features a snack bar with beverages and a lounge. There is a shop for the sale of paddles and other items, and the paddles can be tried out in a small practice court before purchase.

The facility is named for Jumbo Fernando, a well-known tennis player who is the father of co-owner Roshan Fernando. He played for his home country of Sri Lanka, competed in the Davis Cup, and become the top player when he attended the University of Oregon.

Jumbo’s Pickleball will now be open seven days a week.
