Beaverton gears up for September parade

The community of Beaverton is preparing for its 60th annual Beaverton Celebration Parade to be held in September.

There will be a 5K Fun Run before the parade gets started at 9:00 am at Griffith Park and run until noon.

Since the parade began in 1957, it has become a tradition of the community, now with more than 100 entries ranging from colorful floats, to marching bands and cultural organizations. Along with the featured grand marshal of the parade and local elected officials, the Service to Beaverton Award winners are honored as celebrity guests.

The theme of the parade for this year is ‘Be Green in ‘17’, meaning participants are encouraged to incorporate recycled materials, sustainability, and environmentally friendly elements in their floats.

The deadline for parade entry applications is the end of the business day on August 11. In addition to a downloadable application, there are paper applications that were printed by a local print company and can be submitted by mail to the City of Beaverton Celebration Parade.

The parade will be on Saturday, September 9, followed by the Bike Beaverton event beginning at the City Fountain Park at 1:00 pm, then a family bike ride at 2:00 pm, along with frozen treats. It is hosted by the Bicycle Advisory Committee.
