Beaverton to gain new arts center

Interest in a place to experience the arts in the Beaverton area has been growing over the past several years.

Among the projects currently underway to accomplish this goal are a deal the National Park Service is working on to bring arts groups into the barracks and the development of new space for the arts as part of its rebuilding of Terminal 1 by Waterfront Vancouver.

In Beaverton itself, a $11m capital campaign is beginning to take shape that build a center for the arts, housing classrooms, a rooftop terrace for events, a gallery, a 450-seat theater, and many more facilities.

Denny Doyle, Mayor of Beaverton, who has been working on such a project since the early 1990s, said that the city has applied for grants and many businesses, such as Intel and Nike, are supporting the city with this endeavor. He hopes that ground can be broken in 2019.

Funds for the project will also be raised through donations from private and public sources. The center will be operated by a new nonprofit. The Mayor added that there will be an endowment to keep rental costs at the facility low.

Flyer printing companies could be used in efforts like this to create flyers with general information about the proposed center to generate enthusiasm in the community, and to garner financial donations.
