Beaverton ballet studio returns to in-person classes

In-person classes are now being offered at a ballet academy in Beaverton.

Cynthia Sultanov, co-owner of Sultanov Russian Ballet Academy in northwest Beaverton, is offering studio classes following social distancing and other protocols. Virtual classes are also being offered for those who want to learn from home. Making such classes known to the community is often facilitated with help from a printing services company in the area.

Sultanov Russian Ballet Academy teaches children between the ages of 5 and 17, for a total of 70 students. They learn Russian ballet which is like other baller but focuses more on acting and upper body movements. Artur, Sultanov's husband, teaches the classes. He is a principal dancer with the Oregon Ballet Theatre and is from St. Petersburg, Russia.

The goal of the academy is to train those who are looking to make dance as their career. Those of all ages and levels of skill are encouraged to take classes and learn more about dance. Artur’s rigorous teaching method is designed to help dancers build their technique, encourage them to develop their individual strengths, and inspire their own interpretation of dance. Students who graduate from the Academy are guided through the dance profession.

The Academy will be having its Spring Showcase at the Sherwood Center for the Arts on Saturday June 5.
