Annual Beaverton bike event returns for bike safety

The annual Bike Beaverton is returning to the city for the 10th time.

As part of the event, the bike team of the Beaverton Police Department will have an educational safety rodeo and the Bicycle Advisory Committee will sponsor a fun community ride.

The safety rodeo is for kids featuring an obstacle course and will begin at 1:00 pm on the day of the event. Following will be the community bike ride at 2:00 pm, after which there will be cupcakes and frozen treats for all participants. In addition, a beginner bike ride will be held.

For those who do not have helmets, which are required for all rides, these will be provided by the Northwest Bicycle Safety Council.

Those who want to register ahead of time for the event can do so online until Wednesday, September 5, or can do it on site on the day of the event.

The goal of the event is to teach bike safety for both motorists and bicyclists. Fittings of helmets, safety checks, and handing out of good will be provided by many local businesses including Nike, the Northwest Bicycle Safety Council, Bethany Bike Repair, and Bike Gallery. Print shops may also be used by such businesses to print various materials with more information about bike safety that participants can take away from the event.

Bike Beaverton will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 9 at City Park.
