Columbus outing introduces Odonata

Members of the Odonata group of insects, which includes dragonflies and damselflies, will be in the spotlight in Colombus later this month.

The Oodles of Odes field trip will explore these aerial acrobats. It will visit Scioto Audubon Metro Park, where Deb Marsh will share her expertise.

Participants in the walking workshop will visit the various ponds at the venue, searching for these insects and learning about them as they go. Details about their life cycles and how they spend their early days in an aquatic environment will be shared, and everyone will find out how to identify some of the species most commonly seen in the area. Details about a citizen science project being undertaken in the state of Ohio that is focused on Odonata will be provided as well.

Everyone is advised to bring a hat, a bottle of water, and a pair of binoculars if they have them.

An environmental or nature-focused walk and talk gives the public a chance to get the inside scoop on different topics related to the natural world. A brochure printing company can use comb binding and other techniques to craft basic field guides, recording sheets, and other materials for an event.

Oodles of Odes will introduce the world of dragonflies and damselflies on Saturday, June 27. It will begin at 12:30 pm.
