A small member of the Amaryllidaceae family of plants, paperwhites are a popular holiday decor item in many homes, and a Columbus workshop will show how easy it can be to get them to bloom out of season.
While paperwhites grown outdoors tend to bloom in the spring, the participants in the class planned by Traders Garden center will show how to fool them into thinking it is time to flower. The techniques can also be used with other flowering bulbs, and they may be used as hostess gifts or kept as seasonal home decor.
Each participant will be able to create their arrangement using their own container, or they can purchase one on site if they prefer. Pebbles and bulbs will be provided, and the attendees are welcome to bring their own accessories such as sea glass, shells or other items they feel are appropriate. Tickets for the session are $35, and there are four November dates to choose from.
A horticultural class gives members of the public a chance to release their inner green thumb. Sheets of simple tips and care instructions can be prepared for an occasion by a brochure printing company.
This introduction to the basics of forcing bulbs to flower out of season is scheduled for November 12, 17, 19, and November 20. Straders Garden Center can be found at 1354 King Avenue.
