Columbus class to prepare Mardi Gras fare

Louisiana cuisine takes inspiration from many cultures, and a Columbus workshop will teach those who love this style of cookery how to prepare it in their own home kitchen.

Chef instructor and food writer Shawnie Kelley will teach those who take part in the Mardi Gras Celebration class how to prepare several dishes that have come to be popular in the state. These include gumbos, as well as bananas Foster and a basic corn maque choux. The group of attendees will be walked through the techniques for preparing these recipes, and the facilitator will discuss each of the ingredients and share some trivia about them.

Louisiana dishes incorporate many styles of cuisine, including French, as the Acadians brought their cookery techniques with them when they first came to the area hundreds of years ago. As the activity will involve a lot of standing, the participants are advised to wear comfortable shoes.

A cooking class can be both entertaining and educational. Providing the participants with recipe cards will make it easy for them to replicate the dishes at home, and Stationery printers will be happy to prepare them.

This introduction to the food that has come to be a tradition in Louisiana will be offered on Tuesday, February 13. It is set to take place at 250 Cleveland Avenue in Columbus starting at 6:00 pm.
