Celebrated vocalist to perform in Cincinnati

A renowned vocalist who has won both Grammys and an Oscar is coming to Cincinnati.

Peabo Bryston is from Greenville, South Carolina, where his mother often took her family to concerts performed by Black artists, instilling a love of music in the youngster. He began his career at age 14 as a backup singer for a Greenville group, the Upsetters. He joined another local band, Moses Dillard and the Tex-Town Display, two years later. During a recording session in Atlanta, the manager of Bang Records heard Bryson and signed him.

In 1976, Bryson released “Underground Music” on Bang, and a year later, Capitol Records signed him. Known for his rich baritone of operatic quality, he has sung the role of Sportin’ Life in a 1998 production of “Porgy and Bess” at the Michigan Opera Theater.

Bryson has released 20 studio albums, dropping the latest, “Stand for Love,” in 2018, and has won two Academy Awards and two Grammys. A concert review says:

“Bryson was as smooth and suave as ever . . . particularly when he dusted off the personal classics ‘Can You Stop the Rain?’ and ‘If Ever You’re in My Arms Again’ . . .”

Peabo Bryson will be at the Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati on Saturday, June 28. Colorful Posters, which event organizers will find at Print shops, are often used to advertise shows like this.
