A new food pantry is now open in Valley Stream by the Harry Chapin Regional Food Bank.
The food pantry is on Rockaway Avenue and will be known as the West Nassau Center for Food Assistance and Community Support. It will be open Monday to Friday. However, the Tuesdays will be Military Appreciation Day and will be open just for service members and veterans.

Vice president for Programs and Community Services, Jessica Rosati, said that the West Nassau Center for Food Assistance and Community Support food pantry is part of Long Island Cares whose goals is to provide immediate ongoing relief to those experiencing food worries in Valley Stream and neighboring towns in the county. Rosati added that this new food pantry was made possible by the support of its partners in the community and elected officials who are working together to improve the lives of others.
CEO and President of Long Island Cares, Paule Pachter, said that this is the ninth location of Long Island Cares and brings such services closer to those who need emergency food support in the community. Pachter added that they are looking forward to working with the government and local businesses in the community to address the needs of the populations on Long Island.
