A course is on offer near Valley Stream that will see those who successfully complete the work become qualified water safety instructors through the American Red Cross Water Safety program.
This opportunity to add to their water safety skill set is open to those who are at least age 16 and over. Before someone will be permitted to take part, they will be required to show their ability to meet certain requirements when it comes to their swimming abilities.
Each participant in the course will need to be able to swim the back crawl, front crawl, breaststroke and sidestroke for 25 yards each. They will also need to be able to demonstrate proficiency with the butterfly stroke, maintain their position for one minute in deep water on their back, and tread water for at least one minute. These skills will be measured utilizing the Stroke Performance Charts developed by the Red Cross.
The program includes 30 hours of instruction and skill development, and both in and out of the water. Upon successful completion of the requirements, they will be qualified to instruct a variety of swimming classes for children and adults. Print shops can supply manuals and other materials for this type of educational event.
This learning opportunity has been planned for June 1, and it will be held in Oceanside. More details can be obtained through its online event listing.
