The pool complex at Hendrickson Park in Valley Stream has undergone some updates in anticipation of the summer season.
There is a new pavilion that keeps those going to the pool shielded from overexposure to the sun and helps them stay cool. This pavilion was made possible by a grant of $50,000 secured by Senator Todd Kaminsky along with other members of the Assembly. News of such improvements is often spread throughout a community with poster printing.
Senator Kaminsky said that these improvements will make the poolside experience more enjoyable for residents. He expressed his pride in being able to secure these funds for the community of Valley Stream and said that he is confident that people of all ages in the community will make good use of the pavilion.
Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages said that she and Senator Kaminsky secured these funds for the sunshade so that residents can enjoy the pool and not be concerned about sunburn and overheating. She added that she is looking forward to joining the community at the pool and keeping safe from the sun.
The pool received $1m in updates 10 years ago, with the building getting a new roof, the parking lot being repaved, and the metal awning at the entrance replaced. In 1998, the children’s interactive area was added, and in 2005 the Olympic pool was completely redone.
