Shoppers World, a major discount retail chain, is now open in Valley Stream at the Green Acres Mall.
The store occupies 73,000 square feet on two levels and is an anchor space that was once the home of Century 21.
Among the items offered at Shoppers World are discounted clothes and accessories, and home furnishings. Flyer printing can be used on a regular basis at such stores to promote both weekly and seasonal specials and discounts.
The chain can be found in 13 states and has a total of 42 stores, including ones in Indiana, Connecticut, and New Jersey. There are six stores in New York alone—one in Queens, four in Brooklyn, and now this store in Valley Stream.
The chain is family-owned, founded by Sam Dushey Sr. in Baltimore in the 1930s. The current president of the chain is Sam A. Dushey. Dushey said that the logical place for the new store was at the Green Acres Mall as many of the customers who shopped at the store in Queens were coming from Long Island. He added that this location seems to be a major hub.
Shoppers World will have opened five new stores by the end of this year. One of these was a store in Fashion District Philadelphia, also in a space once the home of a Century 21. The chain plans to open 10 to 15 stores per year over the next few years.
