Long Island celebrates Chinese New Year

The Celebrate Chinese New Year at Coe Hall events is taking place over two days next month. It will be a fundraiser for the Planting Fields Foundation.

This year is the Year of the Monkey, and Coe Hall will be decorated with lots of monkey images and red lanterns to celebrate the occasion. There will also be peonies and kumquat trees on display. In addition, the best Chinese jades and other works of art from the permanent collection will be gathered together in an exhibit. Other decorative touches at the celebration are expected to include paper cutouts of animals and plants attached to the windows.

Many activities are set for the day, including several cultural performances including dance, craft activities for the children, musical entertainment, and the opportunity to try sweet rice cakes.

People are likely to be drawn to attend this celebration from all over Long Island, including Valley Stream. Organizers may approach local printing companies to invest in marketing materials such as Booklets, Flyers and Posters.

Celebrate Chinese New Year at Coe Hill will take place at the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park from February 13 to 14 from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm each day. Admission is $10 for adults and free for Planting Fields members and children aged 12 and under. Contact Jennifer Lavella at 516-922-8678 to find out more about this planned celebration.
