Apartment building nears completion in Valley Stream area

A residential building that is eight stories tall on Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway is almost complete. Residents of nearby Valley Stream who may be interested in moving to New York City may want to look at this building.

The building spans 137,342 square feet and will have 138 units to rent, each of which will have an average size of just over 700 square feet. There is also 5,173 square feet of commercial space, 15 parking spaces in an enclosed garage, and a rear yard that is 52 feet long. Among the 138 units, 20 percent will be designated as affordable housing. Surrounding the property are the Rockaway Freeway, Beach 35th Street, Beach 36th Street, and Beach Channel Drive.

The facade of the building is dark and light gray paneling and windows with protruding frames in the color teal. Most of the windows face the northern and southern sides along Beach Channel Drive while the east and west sides have fewer windows. The building has flat parapets on top with roof decks that are covered with canopies.

Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform residents and visitors to the area of such upcoming apartment units.

Before excavation began for the new building, the property had been vacant.

The building is expected to be completed next month.
