Rockville Centre to go batty this summer

Bats play an important role in the ecology of the Rockville Centre area, and they will be the stars of the show for two local events taking place this summer.

Old Westbury Gardens values the way bats help to keep insect pests like mosquitoes under control, and its Storybook Stroll and an evening walk for all ages will both focus on these flying mammals. Both activities are family friendly, and while they are included with admission, reservations are required for the bat walk.

The Storybook Stroll will treat those who take part to a reading of “Rufus-The Bat Who Loved Colors,” after which they will be invited to make a craft to take home. The Family Bat Walk will be led by Garbriel Willow who is a local environmental educator and naturalist. The group will walk through the gardens, listening and looking for Signs of bat activity while they learn about their importance in ecology and conservation.

Public gardens and other venues often offer outdoor activities during the summer months. A flyer printing company can be a helpful partner when it comes to marketing a local event.

The team at Old Westbury Gardens will be hosting these activities next month. The story is scheduled for Saturday, July 6 while the Family Bat Walk will take place on Saturday, July 20.
