Rockville Centre recruit among 139th Police Academy Class

The Westchester Police Academy held its 139th graduation on June 19, and among the 53 newly minted law enforcement officers was one officer who is to be assigned to Rockville Centre.

Hundreds of family members were on hand to celebrate the Westchester Police Academy’s latest graduating class at SUNY Purchase. Unlike many high school graduations, the audience at this ceremony was told by Rob Astorino, Westchester County Executive, to “hoot and holler” to their heart’s content.

Many of the graduates, about two-thirds of the class, were joined on stage by a relative who was an active or retired police officer, corrections officer, or parole officer as their certificates were handed out.

The State of New York is divided into training zones. The Westchester Police Academy is the official training location for Zone 3, which is made up of Westchester and Putnam counties. In addition to the Rockville Centre recruit, the graduating class involved 13 police departments in Westchester County.

Among the speakers at the event, besides Astorino, were George Longworth, Westchester County Public Safety Commissioner and Michael Cerone, Irvington Police Chief, each of whom offered their own words of wisdom.

The next steps for the officers, those who know where they will be working, will likely include contacting a printing company and ordering their new Business Cards.
