Rockville Centre hosts St. Paddy's parade

St Patrick’s Day may be over, but residents in Rockville Centre still have a change to bring out their four-leaf clovers and don their greenest attire for the 21st Annual Rockville Centre St. Patrick's Day Parade.

The procession is an open event in the city that supports local charities. Every year, events surrounding the parade start at the end of January with a food and wine tasting, and do not end until the parade itself. In between, a Grand Marshal is named and a breakfast is held.

This year's Grand Marshal will be Patti Ann McDonald, mayor of the village of Malverne and co-author of the book ‘The Steven McDonald Story’. McDonald has been in local service since 1996 and has served on numerous charitable boards, including Momma's House and the Helen Hayes Hospital. She has received many awards, including the Elizabeth Ann Seton Award and the Presidents Medal.

Anyone in the area can file an application, pay the $25 fee, and participate in the procession. Awards will be given out for best overall as well as best fire department, military group, youth group, dance group, performance group, and pipe band. Additionally, a commemorative booklet printing of the parade, its attendees, and its entries will be sold. All proceeds from the event will be split among three local charities.

The Rockville Centre St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held on Saturday, March 25 starting at 12:00 pm and will run through downtown Rockville Centre. Anyone looking for more information about the parade should visit the website.
