A seasonal charity event will be taking place in Rockville Centre next week, as local businesses, bars, and restaurants aim to get listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. This Sunday, December 16, a host of folks will be taking to the streets dressed as Santa's elves.
The event, being run in association with the St. Patrick’s Parade Committee, will see people meet at Blackthorn, Kaseys, MacArthur Park, Monaghan’s and RJ Daniels at 3:00 pm to attempt the record.
Anyone can come along to the event dressed as an elf, with everyone taking part donating collected sponsor money. All cash raised will go to a number of local charities, while any money up to the value of $20,000 will be doubled by a local businessman.
The event is sure to be a fun one for those taking part, while many people are likely to turn out just to watch, enjoy the paid-for buffet, and listen to music supplied by Jerry & the Newcomers too.
Poster printing and banner printing will decorate the venues and raise the profile of the attempt in the run-up. Donations will be gladly accepted on the day of the event, with all proceeds going to the ALS Association of New York, The Jillian E. Daly Foundation, and the Rockville Centre Community Fund. Monies will also be directed to the care agency Crosscare, based in Dublin, Ireland.
It is hoped that in the region of 1,000 people will turn out, with the present record standing at 936. That was set in Nenagh in Tipperary, Ireland, last winter.
