Rochester local Dani Polidor has won the Race for the Space competition for her furniture store idea, called City Sense. It should be open to the public by Black Friday to capitalize on the major shopping day.
The announcement was made at 60 Browns Race in High Falls in front of a crowd eager to hear which of the five finalists earned the top spot.
According to Polidor, each room of the store will simulate a room of a house, complete with furniture, accessories, and other design products. The new store will be located in the 5,000 square foot space in the building at 127 East Avenue, with a year’s worth of free rent.
Given all of the startup costs for a new business, particularly in the retail world, free rent is a welcome gift. Polidor will likely require the support of a local Print company for various marketing services and launch announcement items. She may choose to create branded promotional items, such as custom Drinkware, to help spread the word of her new store.
Leaders from Rochester’s business community launched the Race for the Space competition in August. The purpose of the competition is to support and encourage local entrepreneurship in the city. Applicants paid a $495 entry fee and were able to present their ideas to a panel of judges.
Each applicant had the opportunity to work with industry experts, including those who are successful businesspeople, career coaches, and entrepreneurs. Get a Free Quote for Drinkware Get a Free Quote for Print
