Red Hook reading program to help summer sizzle

The summer reading season has arrived in Red Hook, and a special event will help to get the season started.

The Red Hook Rec Park Pavilion will soon be welcoming the Summer Reading Kickoff, which is being organized by the Red Hook Public Library. It will feature some special guests, and the kids can meet a costumed character in person and have their photos taken with him.

Along with the chance to meet Rascal, who is the mascot for the Hudson Valley Renegades baseball team, attendees will have the opportunity to rub elbows with the players. The public can sit in on a story reading, make a craft and play games, and the Summer Reading Passports will be distributed as well. The goal is to encourage children to discover the joys of the written word, and each parent or caregiver can register up to seven kids. Email reminders will be sent out ahead of the activity.

Communities across the USA have organized reading challenges and other literacy building events for the summer. A poster printing company can craft informational materials that help to spread the word about a function, as well as Corporate Gifts to present to those who complete a program or challenge.

The Red Hook Public Library will be adding even more fun to summer with this launch on Monday, July 8. It will begin at 10:30 am.
