The Bard Music Festival is to be held in Red Hook this August.
The event focuses on presenting classical music to contemporary audiences, and takes a different approach to the typical music festival or classical concert. Instead, it takes an in-depth analysis of musicians and their work, relating them to themes such as gender, religion, literature, and faith.
For this month's event, the focus will be on composers such as Sergei Rachmaninoff and Nikolai Medtner. The show will also feature live commentary courtesy of Professor of Russian Literature and Music, Philip Ross Bullock. He currently works at Oxford University in the UK and has received several awards for his work in reviewing thematic literature and works by acclaimed writers and musicians. He also serves as Bard's current scholar-in-residence.
With this festival, Bullock will explore the claim that many of the composer's songs were inspired by women. He does so by examining the history of the event's headliner, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and his complex relationship with women, including his wife, his teenage sweetheart, and his sister-in-law. The festival aims to give guests thought-provoking performances.
The cost for tickets will vary between $25 and $50. Bard students may purchase them for $5. Brochure printing can offer attendees an idea of the program outline at events such as this.
This event takes place on August 7 beginning at 10:00 am at the Fisher Center, which is located at Manor Ave, Annandale-On-Hudson, Red Hook, New York 12504.
