New Rochelle will be holding its annual Thanksgiving Parade for the 53rd consecutive year.
Many organizations, companies, schools, and bands from around Westchester County will be participating in the parade, which is hosted by the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce. Some of the participants will include the College of New Rochelle, Monroe and Iona Colleges, Habitat for Humanity of Westchester, and the Boys and Girls Club.
There will also be classic cars, floats, and an appearance from Santa Claus. Frank Bernabei, recreation supervisor for the City of New Rochelle since 1994, will serve as Grand Marshall.
A figure of cartoon hero Mighty Mouse will be the featured balloon of the parade, according to Robert Marrone, President of the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce. The original character was designed in the historic “K” building that housed the Terrytoons Studio from 1930 to 1971, and which designed the character.
He added that each division will be represented by a giant balloon, some of which will be Thomas the Tank Engine, Mr. Potato Head, and a snowman.
The parade will be on Saturday, November 19, beginning at 10:00 am starting at New Rochelle High School. The Chamber and the City may be collaborating to create Banners that can be posted throughout the area to generate enthusiasm for this largest Thanksgiving parade outside of the one Macy’s hosts in New York City.
