Supporter of New Rochelle elected to Hall of Fame

Mariano Rivera, legend of the New York Yankees and resident of Westchester County, has been unanimous elected to the Class of 2019 Class of 2019 Baseball Writers’ Association of American Hall of Fame.

Not only was it the first year that Rivera was on the ballot, but also the first time that someone has been unanimously elected.

Rivera commented that his expectation when he was a baseball player was not to become a member of the Hall of Fame. He was happy to be playing for the Yankees and help them to as many championships as he could, and expressed his amazement at being given the thumbs up by all voters.

Charles Strome III, City Manager of New Rochelle, congratulated Rivera on his election. He said that Rivera deserves this tribute and honor to his career. He added that Rivera is not only a member of the American Hall of Fame but a ‘Hall of Famer’ in New Rochelle, as he has been generous with his time volunteering for the community.

Rivera has offered scholarships to the College of New Rochelle, raised funds for a new bookstore for the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library, and helped with the distribution of school supplies and Backpacks to children in New Rochelle.
