New Rochelle student recognized for radio broadcasting excellence

At the annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) conference in New York City, Landon Popovic, a student who is majoring in media and strategic communications at Iona University in New Rochelle, was honored as a finalist for the “Best Sports Talk Show” award.

These awards from IBS Media recognize excellence in radio broadcasting by students around the country. Popovic competed against thousands of submissions and was recognized among the top five percent of students across the country.

News of such achievements is often disseminated throughout a college community with poster printing.

Popovic said that he is very proud of being named as a finalist for IBS but that the greater importance is how he can learn from his experience by being with people with the same passion. His unique voice is showcased on the show “Empire State of Sports” which is on WIUR, the radio station of Iona.

Popovic added that there was a time when he was attending Iona that he felt he had lost his way but the university was able to provide him with the resources he needed that made it possible for him to enter the media industry. By attending the IBS conference, Popovic was able to engage with students from across the United States and gain insights into the world of media which is constantly evolving.
