New Rochelle concerts continue in August

The New Rochelle Council on the Arts will be continuing its Emil Paolucci Summer Sounds Concert Series through August every Wednesday night at Hudson Park.

The Department of Parks and Recreatiuon for the city is working with the Council to present the summer concerts, while Webster Bank is sponsoring the music.

The upcoming concert on August 6 is by the New Rochelle Opera, with opera, operetta, and favorites from Broadway. It is getting additional support from Metro Med.

Remaining concerts for the month will be rhythms and songs of the 1960s and 1970s by Billy and the Showmen on August 13. This will be followed by salsa music by Grupo Arcano on August 20, and classic country and western swing by Gunsmoke on August 27. By using various printing services, the Council can inform the community of these concerts so as to garner enthusiasm for them and increase attendance.

In the early 20th Century, New Rochelle became a desirable suburb of New York City, with its location on Long Island Sound making it a recreation destination for people from Manhattan. Many made it their permanent residence and the city attracted prominent individuals from almost every field, who were responsible for creating the artistic and cultural foundation of the city. As a result, the City Council formed the Council in 1975 to encourage the study of arts.
