John L. DeMelis, MBA, CPA, is the new dean of the LaPenta School of Business at Iona University in New Rochelle.

DeMelis has been the interim dean since July 2023 and has extensive experience in professional accounting and academia. He spent 32 years at Ernst & Young where he held many positions in leadership. He also played a major part in the learning and development programs of the firm to ensure the professional growth of its auditors.
DeMelis has worked successfully with faculty and staff to develop innovative curricula and increased the engagement of students with corporate partners and alumni to secure internship and career opportunities for students. In addition, he has played a major role in molding the future of the business programs at the Iona and outside the university he has served as a peer review volunteer for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, an accreditation organization.
President of Iona University, Seamus Carey, Ph.D., said that the leadership of DeMelis has already had a significant impact on the university and his academic excellence and dedication to the success of students will continue to strengthen the LaPenta School of Business.
