Iona College in New Rochelle will be reviving its master’s degree program in Educational Leadership.
This program is designed to prepare students to become leaders in schools and take up such positions as department chairs, assistant principals, and principals, and to have the ability to make a difference in their schools and communities.
Malissa Scheuring Leipold, Ed.D., associate professor and chair of the Education Department, said Iona’s program will enable students to learn practical skills that they can immediately use, as the classes will be small, personalized, and taught by experienced leaders in the field. It will integrate real-life situations in school with theory and use computerized simulation, action research, case studies, and collaborative group study to provide a rewarding and comprehensive experience, Leipold adds. Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about such programs and their requirements.
Themes to be covered in the program will include ethical decision making, building bridges for social justice, and entrepreneurship. The program will be made convenient for students, with each course running for one month with two meetings on the weekends, meaning students will have more time during the week. When students complete the program, they will have met the initial certification in School Building Leadership (SBL) in New York State and will be able to take the exam for School Building Leader.
