Iona College in New Rochelle recently hosted over 50 faculty, staff, and students for The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Cheerios One Million Acts of Good Morning. This is a national campaign designed to spread goodwill and kindness throughout the world.
General Mills and MATER partnered with Chartwells Higher Education, the dining partner of Iona College, to encourage the Iona community to pack 200 MATTERboxes with snack packs that contained Nature Valley Bars and Whole Grain Cheerios from General Mills, along with other healthy food items that would help improve the health of the residents in neighboring communities. Also in the snack pack was a note of encouragement written by those packing the snack packs to share an inspirational message with the recipients.
Hope Community Services in New Rochelle and Abraham House in the Bronx received the MATTERboxes. MATTER is based in Minnesota and is a nonprofit whose mission is to provide a healthier life for people. Poster printing companies can be hired to inform the community of such efforts made by colleges.
Director of Mission and Ministry at Iona College, Carl Procario-Foley, Ph.D., said that the college has found this initiative as a great way to serve those who are hungry in the community. He noted that the College has partnered for many years with Abraham House and Hope Community Services.
