Iona University in New Rochelle and the City of White Plains have launched a new City Labs Project. This is part of the Westchester Innovation Network (WIN), a program of the Business Council of Westchester.
The new project is designed to understand opportunities for workforce development in the county, and use the White Plains Education and Training Center to support growth in the workforce. News of such projects is often spread throughout a campus and the affected community with flyer printing.
During the upcoming week, students from Iona’s Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation will be working on how they can revitalize a job training program in Brookfield Commons in White Plains. This affordable housing development in the downtown area has held job training classes in the past on such topics as phlebotomy, cybersecurity, and cooking.
Thomas Roach, mayor of White Plains, said that a new workforce training program will be welcome in the city, as there is a robust business community that includes dining, retail, construction, and healthcare. He added that WIN is ideal for developing new ideas about revitalizing such programs and how they can be implemented.
The GaelVentures program manager at the Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Iona, Rob Kissner, expressed his excitement about this new project. He said it will enable students to take what they have learned in the classroom and solve problems in the real world.
