Academic excellence award goes to New Rochelle students

Stacey Smith and Manpreet Singh, graduates of the Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) graduate program at Iona University in New Rochelle, are the recipients of this year’s Award for Academic Excellence.Academic excellence award goes to New Rochelle students

The faculty and staff of the MFT program at Iona select students each year based on their clinical, academic, and collaborative performance, in addition to their efforts that go above and beyond the requirements of the program and commitment to social justice in their clinical work.

Smith said that her experience in the MFT program at Iona has been one filled with many emotions. She retired from a career in technical telecommunications to one that that has been demanding yet extremely rewarding. She said that the knowledge and skills she gained through the program will enable her to change the perspective of mental health to one that is healthier and more positive.

Singh has previously worked in the field of information technology and found that the shift into marriage and family therapy has been challenging in many ways. He has a passion for caring for his clients, as well as a curiosity and resilience that will enable him to work with special needs families and diverse communities.
