The County Executive made the announcement on his proposed budget from the Allison Parris County Office located in New City at the start of October. According to the county’s finance records, Rockland has bounced back from the $138 million deficit that it had in 2014 and now has a surplus of funding. Budgets could be shared on documents that feature official Letterheads.
Ed Day also said:
“But just as our families are facing financial challenges, so is County government, which is why we are continuing to be cautionary with this surplus to shield ourselves from any crisis that is thrown at us – including a recession.”
The budget proposed for 2023 takes into account the elimination of energy tax but does not take property taxes into consideration. The budget also shows that the county now has enough funding to re-establish the seat of Commissioner of General Services who will be in charge of Purchasing, Facilities, Capital Projects, and Information and Communication Systems. Some of the other allocations for funds outlined in the budget include:
- $1.45 million to strengthen services and create new positions,
- $1.5 million to provide more training for emergency responders and firefighters,
- $518,200 to increase the funding for non-profit contract agencies.
