Lawmakers from New York State have passed new laws that will affect drivers all over the state, including New City.
Signed by Governor Kathy Hochul, the new law means a new requirement for drivers all over New York who are trying to get a driver’s license. Stationery printers can be used to Print identification documents and share details of rule changes.
A new curriculum will be added to the course when applying for a license. It will include an overview on how drivers are to share the roads with pedestrians and cyclists. The point of this new course is to ensure that new drivers take the necessary precautions when they see cyclists and pedestrians on the road. Governor Hochul went on to say:
“This law will help prevent crashes and save lives, and I thank my partners in the Assembly and Senate for passing this legislation to make our streets safer."
Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado spoke in favor of the new requirements for getting a driver’s license in the state. He is the parent of two boys and he feels that the new law requiring drivers to take the safety of other road users into consideration makes him feel that his boys are safer in their neighborhoods. He fully supports the goal of reducing the number of fatalities and injuries suffered on roads.
