Peas are a crop that thrives in the cool days of early spring, and families that would like to get growing may want to be sure they attend a local workshop.
New City’s Rockland Farm Alliance’s Children’s Garden will be kicking off the growing season with a workshop that will give parents and kids an opportunity to get their hands dirty. They will be planting peas, and everyone will be able to take some home to add to their own garden.
The participants will be getting the garden beds ready for planting, and once they are ready, they will direct sow pea seeds. Anyone with questions about gardening will be able to ask the facilitator for tips and advice and, as the group will be working outdoors, they are reminded to be sure they dress for both the weather and the task at hand.
When the workshop draws to a close, the families will be welcome to take some peas they have planted in peat pots, and these can then be transplanted to their own beds. Masks are required, and everyone will be asked to observe social distancing protocols. Stationery printers can prepare printed tip sheets to give to each registrant in this sort of activity.
