Work on a New City campus to help people with disabilities and medical conditions has now been completed, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has confirmed.
In a July 23 announcement, Hochul revealed that the Jawonio campus, which cost $20m in total, is now ready to be unveiled. Jawonio specialises in lifespan services for Hudson Valley residents with special needs, including those related to behavioral health, developmental disability, and chronic illness.
In a statement, Hochul emphasized that the facility will help continue Jawonio’s work in creating pathways to employment in the region, while also establishing new opportunities for locals to overcome employment and training barriers. This will allow employers to benefit from a wider pool of qualified workers.
The project, which included the construction of a 70,000 square foot corporate office facility, should not only help retain around 700 current jobs at Jawonio, but open up another 230 positions, giving local jobseekers reason to get their Business Cards and résumés updated.
Among the building’s most notable features will be an evaluation and assessment area made accessible for people with hearing and vision impairments, behavioral or physical challenges, and special learning needs. The phones and IT equipment have been adopted to meet these requirements.
The project has been several years in the making, with Phase One of it completed back in July 2018. The second phase was finalized in October 2020, and work on the third and final phase was completed just last month.
