A $5,000 grant has been given to the Suffern High School robotics team to help the students with the construction and development of robots that will feature in competitions, courtesy of O&R.
Knowing the difference between a transistor and a resistor may not be enough to become a successful robot builder at Suffern High. A keen understanding of robotics and a love for science would help however the students on this team have a proper understating of their projects’ goals and critical thinking skills. The students also have to be skilled at working in teams. Creativity and resourcefulness help as well.
The Suffern Robotics team was started in 2007. Suffern High was one of the first high schools in the New City area to have a robotics team and the team has competed in many regional and local robotics competitions every year since its inception. The Suffern team has competed in five World Championships. The grant will help them compete in the 2020 season. Proving Promotional Products such as T-Shirts is another way to support local teams.
The competition usually requires the students to work with professional engineers. They are given a certain kit of parts and tasked with designing a robot that can solve a particular problem. When the robots are completed, they are placed in competitions against other teams to see which team’s robot is better at solving the problem.
