Aron Wieder, the Chairman of Rockland County’s Legislature Budget & Finance, put out a statement that read:
"So far, it seems to be a good foundation and I look forward to working with the CE’s office, the department heads, and my legislative colleagues in a bipartisan effort to adopt the best budget possible for our residents and businesses."
The budget stipulates a reduction in property tax rates which includes a two percent cut. This is a significant change from the double-digit increases that were popular in previous years. Michael Grant, the Budget & Finance Committee's Vice Chair, feels that Rockland’s county government has made significant progress in strengthening its financial position over the last decade. The spending plan encompasses several crucial allocations. For example, there is a significant boost in funds allocated for patriotic observances, rising from $1250 to $3000. Close to $1 million is earmarked for the creation of new positions within the Department of Social Services. This move is in direct response to the escalating demand for social services in Rockland cities such as New City, indicating a proactive approach to addressing the community's evolving needs.
