An exciting kayak race is coming to New City next month, pitting area firefighting stations against each other in friendly competition to determine a champion.
The 2025 Reservoir Paddle Series: Lake DeForest will hit the water in the coming weeks for a family-friendly day of paddling and competition. The event will also serve as a fundraiser, with the proceeds donated to the Hackensack Riverkeeper to continue protecting, restoring, and preserving the Hackensack River Watershed.
The event will feature multiple open paddle sessions before the race begins, with interested parties welcome to bring their kayak or rent one from the event venue. No stand-up paddleboards will be allowed at the lake. The Firefighter Challenge will follow the open paddle sessions, with Nanuet looking to defend last year’s title. Poster printing is a captivating way to promote such events around the town and increase the money raised for the event’s cause.
The lake will also support the NY Fish and Wildlife Fishing Challenge, with participants 16 and over welcome to fish without a freshwater fishing license. A limited number of rods and reels will be available for rent, and prizes will be awarded at 3:00 PM.
The water events will take place on Saturday, June 28th, at Strawtown Fields and Lake DeForest in New City, starting at 8:00 AM. Spectators enter for free, and kayaks cost $33.25 to rent online.
