A classic tradition will be celebrated in New City on multiple dates in early December.
Saint Nicholas Day Family Event is a program that occurs every year, and has been since 1961. The Historical Society of Rockland County brings the Dutch history of Christmas to residents through various activities, stories, and food and drink items. Saint Nicholas and one of his horses will even be making an appearance at the 1832 Jacob Blauvelt House. Kids will be given a surprise treat, which they will find in their shoes. This is one of the many pieces of the Dutch traditions being shared in this event.
There will be several groups each day, with each lasting about 45 minutes. These will take place over two days. The start times for both days are set to be 10:30 am, 12:00 pm, 1:30 pm, and 3:30 pm. Flyer printing is often used in promotion of similar activities, and to highlight timeslots.
There is also the option to purchase Boxes with several activities and treats, as well as a link to access the storytelling portion virtually. The pickup will give families the opportunity to see Saint Nicholas with his horse, as well as get a picture with him. Boxes will cost $10 each.
The in-person event will cost $5. Everyone who is 12 or older will need to be vaccinated for Covid-19. All guests will be required to wear a face covering while indoors, and each session will be limited to a total of 24 people. The dates are set to be December 4 and December 5.
