November 8, 2015 was proclaimed Alan Moskin Day by the Rockland County Legislature.
Moskin is a resident of Nanuet and was a hero in World War II. The day was set up to honor him for his military service and his ongoing efforts to educate young people of today about the Holocaust and WWII.
The Rockland County Veterans Coordinating Council also named him Veteran of the Year and held a ceremony to honor him on the steps of the County Courthouse.
According to Phil Soskin, Rockland County Legislator, Moskin has well served the military and the community. He was a liberator of the Gunskirchen Concentration Camp while he was in the Army. In addition, his efforts to educate young people about the history through which he lived can only serve to advocate for those who suffered in the concentration camps in Europe, he adds.
Moskin was also praised by the Chairman of the Rockland County Legislature, Alden H. Wolfe, who commented that he saw things people should never have to see, but that those experiences have enabled him to become a leader in fighting hatred and intolerance.
The Rockland County Legislature might consider newsletter printing to create a feature about Moskin’s contributions during the war and his current efforts educating middle and high school students on his experiences.
