Woods honored as Hibernians Person of the Year

Rockland County Ancient Order of Hibernians recently announced that Emmett Woods of Pearl River, which is just outside of Nanuet, New York, is the organization’s ‘Businessperson of the Year’.

Woods is originally from the Bronx, where he met his wife and started their family of four. After moving to New Jersey, they then relocated to Pearl River in 1995. It was here that Woods, working in the construction industry, helped to renovate the restaurant at the Golf Course at Blue Hill in 2011 and then reopened it later that year as Emmett’s Castle at Blue Hill.

He and his wife decided on Pearl River as they were looking for a great Irish community and felt that the location was as close as one could get to the Irish culture. Woods is a big fan of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Rockland, as it is run professionally, drawing a large crowd, and helps to keep the Irish heritage of the community alive.

No doubt the Hibernians will be using flyer printing and poster printing to make its announcement and to let the community know that Woods will honored at the Rockland County St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Woods was selected for this honor due to his work in the community with regard to its Irish heritage. For five years, he was chairman of the Rockland Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and still serves as an officer. He also helped the GAA raise funds to purchase fields and then later on to renovate those fields.
