The Sloatsburg Gateway Park project is currently underway in Sloatsburg.
The Rural Business Development Grant Program of the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) has given the village a grant of $249,000 to transform a vacant parking lot into a rustic and modern plaza. This will be opposite the Sloatsburg Train Station which will benefit businesses along Main Street and help in the revitalization efforts of the village. Residents of Nanuet may want to visit the park once it is completed.
There will be landscaping, decorative lighting, and many amenities for residents, tourists, and guest from nearby towns. Its location in close proximity to the train station with Signs that will direct visitors to businesses on the village will readily provide parking to encourage people to use public transportation and to also patronize shops in the downtown business district. To spread the word about such improvements, Print shops are often hired to create Flyers and other materials that can be distributed throughout an area.
Jeremy L. Schulman. Director of the Rockland Economic Development Corporation, said that many people came together so quickly to ensure that this initiative was successful. It was a collaboration between current Mayor Akey, former mayor Carl Wright, the Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Trustees, and the Downtown Revitalization Committee., all from Sloatsburg.
The park is expected to be opened sometime this summer with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
