A grant of $933,000 has been awarded by the Office of Strategic Workforce Development (OSWD) from the state of New York to Rockland Community College (RCC).
These funds will enable the college to develop and implement a new program on industrial machinery maintenance mechanics that will provide skills-based training for students. This program will enable students to have credentials in this industry that will address shortages in the workforce in the Hudson River Valley. Students living in nearby Nanuet may be interested in enrolling in such programs at the college.
President of RCC, Dr. Lester Rapalo, said the college believes in shaping the future workforce and fostering inclusion and economic success for everyone. Rapalo added that this grant demonstrates that the college is committed to meeting the workforce needs of manufacturing partners in the area, and providing students with credentialed training in much-needed fields.
Vice President of Economic Mobility and Workforce Innovation at RCC, Kevin Stump, said this investment by the state will enable the college to work with employers to create pathways for students that will lead to upward economic mobility, a major goal of the college. The program will enable students to earn industry-specific certificates or transfer into degree-seeking programs. Brochure printing can be used to provide more details on such programs.
It is expected that this new program will be available for students for the spring semester.
