The Thruway Shopping Plaza on Route 59 in Clarkstown is slated to become a destination spot with a hotel, convenience store, and gas station.
To be called the Gateway Commons of Nanuet, the project will have a Holiday Inn Express standing five stories tall with 121 rooms. There will also be a QuickChek with gas pumps - the first QuickChek in Rockland County. The existing cell tower and KFC/Taco Bell restaurant will remain on the site, which spans 6.6 acres. There is also a strip mall shopping center on the site, covering 27,000 square feet, which will be demolished, with a new Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru to be added. The project will also improve access for pedestrians, increase traffic controls, and eliminate parking for trucks, as well as eliminating a fuel station for large trucks. There will be new sidewalls which are Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant. The entrance to the property on Route 58 near the New York State Thruway will also be removed, and there will be significant upgrades to landscaping, including the planting of trees and green buffers.
The Holiday Inn Express will be the fifth hotel chain in Nanuet. Other chains in town include a Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, and most recently the Element Spring Valley.
